Just admit it, most of want the easy path to the big results that we desire in life:
- The easy path to our dream job
- The easy path to our dream physique
- The easy path to wealth
- The easy path to mastering the instrument you’ve just started learning
- The easy path to………. it doesn’t matter. Most of us crave the easy path to the things we truly want in life including great health and fitness
And thats not a judgment on you. I was the same for years until I realised it simply didn’t exist. The clear path to these things exists and is freely available on the internet, in books, podcasts or by asking those who have achieved it to name a few sources.
So if the clear path to (insert whatever you want) is available to all, why then do so many people fail to achieve it? We’ve literally been given the instructions yet fail to get the desired result.
In my experience over the years, a big part off it is due to the fact that the clear path to what people want isn’t the easy path. It requires time, patience, education, delayed gratification, an open mind, investment (incising time and money).
It’ll make a great example if we take this idea and focus it on getting out of a rut and building a strong foundation of sustainable health and fitness.
If you’ve neglected your personal health, fitness and wellbeing for too long and it’s impacting your quality of life, relationships, confidence, etc. then the path out of it is pretty clear.
Of course this is a generalisation but here’s a quick overview of some of the things it would involve:
- Getting educated on what you need to do
- Surrounding yourself with people who have done what you are looking to do
- Getting hydrated
- Eating less junk
- Drinking less alcohol
- Learning the skills of stress management
- Exercising regularly
- Getting your sleeping patterns back on track
- Not smoking
- Getting clear on your “WHY” for changing <<<< this is huge
I’m sure you could add countless other things to this list and that’s my point. Most people already know what they need to do because the path is so clear. It’s doing the work that catches them because, especially at the start, it’s not easy.
A great phrase I heard recently from Robin Sharma is that “change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end”. If you have neglected your personal wellbeing and are serious about taking back control of it, you don’t need more information or to discover the path out of it.
You simply need to get started on doing the work, which as Robin has informed us, is going to be hard at first. But the mistake that many people make is thinking that it will always be as hard as it is at the start.
Enter my accountant from several years ago who gave me one of the best bits of advice I ever got and that I have used to transform many areas of my life.
A few years ago, myself and my wife (we weren’t married at the time) were €50,000 in debt and it was crippling us so I sat down with my accountant to talk about options of how to get rid of it.
Like many others, I wanted the easy path to getting debt free. I wanted the new incentive from the government. I wanted the huge tax-write off that I didn’t know about. I wanted the little known trick that would allow me to write it off as expenses.
I wanted the easy way out and I wanted my accountant to tell me what it was.
So he sat me down and said “You need to work your way out of it Stephen. Put in more hours so you make more money and direct that extra money towards your debt. Thats it.”
How clear is that?
But because it wasn’t easy and wasn’t what I wanted to hear, I thought he was the worst accountant in the world!!! What was I paying him for?
Eventually I accepted the path he showed me, got educated on how to do it, put in the work and paid off €50,000 in 18 months. It was some of the best advice I ever got but only when I opened my mind up to it.
You don’t need more information or a new path
My take home point for you is this. If you’ve neglected your health and are feeling the negative impact of it in your daily life, you need to start doing the work. Accept that it will be hard at first and messy in the middle but also understand that it will be gorgeous at the end.
If you’re not happy with your quality of life you can get started today with as simple a step as drinking more water and build from there. Planning and researching is great but taking action is where the magic happens.
That’s the path and it’s super clear so why not get started today and put the wheels in motion for a great standard of living tomorrow? You well capable of doing it if you wanted to. Don’t fool yourself into thinking otherwise
Have a great day.
