If you were to see Kevin in the gym going though one of his training sessions now, you’d never believe that when he first started with us he struggled to get through his warm up which, if you were to ask to look back now, was pretty easy.
Similar to many people, Kevin had neglected his personal health and fitness and had a list of reasons why he just couldn’t fit it in- too busy, didn’t need it, didn’t have the willpower, etc. Eventually it got to a point where his quality of life started to suffer and he knew he had to become more pro-active about it or suffer the consequences.
Kevins’ story is another great example of what a true commitment to improving your quality of life looks like. Well done Kevin on such a great job.
“For many years I had neglected to take care of my health and fitness and had all the excuses to back it up such a being too busy but the reality of it was that I was simply ignoring the reality of my situation and didn’t have the willpower to do something about it.
I was also living on daily processed foods including large amounts of cakes, crisps, fry’s, fizzy drinks, biscuits, take-aways and beer. When you add to all this the fact that I’m an asthmatic it’s easy to see that I was in a bad rut and need to do something about it!
Eventually friends started telling me I was getting dangerously overweight and that I needed to take it seriously and do something about it before it was too late.
My confidence, stress levels and and general comfortable in social situations were all being affected and it eventually came to a head when the huge amount of excess weight I was carrying started affecting my ability to do basics tasks in life such as walking and getting up and down off of chairs. I was heading into my 50’s feeling very immobile so it was a critical point in my life as my future quality of life depended on it.
When the reality of my current situation had sunk in, I made an educated and conscious decision to take action and change my lifestyle. I just wanted to feel lighter and more agile, drop the excess fat and be a healthier version of myself.
A friend recommend Steve McGrath Health & Performance and ensured me I would be taken care of and so I got in touch with them and haven’t looked back since!
When I started, I struggled with the warm up which which would be a simple ask for me now. So far I have dropped 6 jean sizes, can do 10 push ups and have deadlifted over 170kg and can perform over 250 skips with a skipping rope without stopping- I remember when my first goal was to learn how to skip and then to do 10 in a row.
Consistency has been the key for me and as a result the progress I’ve made has been outstanding which I plan on continuing with for the year ahead. I feel like a completely different person with more more energy, confidence and mobility and much less stress.
My clothes fit better, I feel more comfortable in social events, I’m much fitter, stronger and mobile and my asthma doesn’t affect me the same way it used to which has made one of the biggest difference to my quality of life.
I just feel like a completely different person.
I find the team at Steve McGrath Health & Performance provide a great environment and show real interest in their clients. They place such a big focus on helping clients achieve their goals no matter their starting point and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them to anyone looking to get started with a their own health and fitness goals.”
