Steve’s Note: Roisìn came to the gym nearly against her will but has over time taken to it fantastically and has thoroughly reaped the benefits. Roisìn can now deadlift well in excess of 100 kilo’s, she is pain free and also has recently joined the illustrious womens 5+ push up club! She has done this all while managing a very busy life. “I reluctantly came to Steve McGrath with my sister who wanted to do a 6 week course but I was extremely skeptical. I had joined various gyms in the past but always lost interest after failing to see any results.
Before I started with Steve McGrath, I was tired, mentally and physically. As a busy mum of 3, the youngest being just a year old, I really didn’t feel I had the time to fit training into my hectic schedule. I was often run down or sick – another reason I couldn’t go to the gym. I remember at my consultation, when asked what my goals were, saying “just turning up the next day” was a big enough goal for me.
Before long I began to notice improvements: I had more energy, my mood improved, I was sleeping better, and getting sick less. I started to enjoy going to the gym and looked forward to my sessions because I felt energised afterward.
The atmosphere at the gym is unique. It’s both friendly and professional. The clients come from all walks of life. From athletes to busy mums like me, people of all ages coming to improve their strength and fitness.
While I thought I had a pretty good diet, I have learned a lot about nutrition from my coaches, and the website has recipe ideas a weekly blog from one of the coaches, and there’s an online community which is a great support.
The staff are always looking to improve their service and continually provide clients with on-going support. This became apparent to me when I had to complete a rehab programme following the return of an old injury. Not only did the guys take on board my consultant’s recommendations but followed up with the physio to ensure maximum effectiveness from my sessions. I found my recovery tough and mentally draining but my coach’s patience and encouragement helped me stay motivated. Six weeks later I was completely pain free!
I believe the key to my success at this gym comes down to the quality of coaching. The staff are qualified, professional and experienced. They designed a program tailor made for me. I can work around injury, illness or just lack of sleep. Thanks to the emphasis on good technique I have never picked up an injury at the gym. I’m not an athlete or even particularly sporty but I’m proud to be able to say I can deadlift 115kg!
Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. My advice to anyone who wants to make a change in his or her life, like me, is to take the first step. Book that free consultation! Two years later, my goal is still to turn up for my next session, although I’m still trying to improve my time keeping!
