Every time a new client gets started on our trial membership, we have them fit out a 3 day food journal so that we can get an idea of where they are starting from.
One of the things that repeatedly shows up is that most people drink very little water, and tend to drink a lot of calorie-dense drinks such as fizzy drinks, alcohol, juices, coffee loaded up with cream and sugar, etc. 🍷🍺
As any of our clients will tell you, we’re definitely not the type of coaching facility that says you can never enjoy your favourite drink, enjoy an extra large hot chocolate with cream, etc., but when you are doing this excessively in the absence of adequate water, then you need to rail things in a bit.
I see a lot of people walking around early in the morning with a bottle of coke, lucozade, etc. in their hand, and most of the time, these people are carrying a lot of excess weight.
Lunches each day include a fizzy drinks along with sine in the evening and sugar-laden tea/coffee through out the day.
Habits like this (high calorie, low nutrient food and drink) are one of the main driving forces behind the surge in weight gain and health issues that plays such a powerful role in lifestyle-related illness such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and heart disease.
When it gets to the point that these drinks are your norm, instead of the exception, you’ll never feel or look as good as you could because you’re chugging down hundreds of excess, useless calories every day.
I know because I used to drink 12 cans of coke and lucozade a day…. and felt and looked absolutely awful as a result 😲
If you’re currently in this situation and are looking to boost your energy levels, drop some excess fat, reduce bloated-ness, and boost your mental clarity, you need to focus on drinking less calorie- dense drinks and more calories-poor drinks.
There’s no doubt that it can be a tough habit to change, but it is doable and well worth the effort.
We coach clients to:
- Aim for 2 litres of water a day to start (some people need more, others need less 💦
- have 1-2 sugar free coffees a day if you’d like it ☕️
- have 1-2 cups of sugar free tea a day if you enjoy them (green, white, camomile, etc.)
- infuse your water with fresh fruit if you’d like some flavour 🍓🍋
- save calorie-dense drinks for events and occasions, not as a staple of each meal 🚫
If you want to build a higher quality lifestyle where you feel fit, strong and healthy, you need to make calorie-free drinks your norm instead of the exception 👍
Making this shift is one of the most powerful changes you can make in your lifestyle and is well worth putting in the effort if you’re currently not looking or feeling the way you’d like, so give it a go for the next few months and you’ll be amazed at the difference 👍
